At his lecture, "The South's Battle Over God," Dr. Wayne Flynt explored the complications of the religious climate of the South. "We see things as God's team defending the southern goal, and secularism's minions defending the northern goal," Flynt said. These ideas were not to paint a grim picture of religious life in America, but instead to put forth the idea that America's Christianity is not able to be explained with geographic lines.

Southside Baptist and Temple Emanu-El sponsored noted Biblical scholar and author Dr. Joel Hoffman in our sanctuary. Dr. Hoffman spoke about common Jewish and Christian misconceptions about the Bible, based upon translations of the Hebrew text into English. Dr. Hoffman is the author of the popular book, And God Said: How Translations Conceal the Bible's Original Meaning.
