Ministries

Community Ministries

  • Adopt-A-School: SBC serves its neighborhood by providing one-on-one tutoring with students at Glen Iris Elementary School and assisting the school with needs that arise.
  • AA Group: Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Monday at 6:30 pm, and Friday at 7:00 pm to provide mutual support for people in recovery.
  • Birmingham Baptist Association: Since 1886, SBC has been a member of BBA. The association is over 130 congregations working together to provide numerous short and long term cooperative ministries in the Birmingham community.
  • Birmingham Hospitality Network: In addition to housing BHN's administrative offices, SBC is one of several churches and synagogues that hosts families periodically in our church facilities. Members serve meals and stay overnight with the families during these periods of service.
  • Bridge Ministries: Bridge Ministries is dedicated to meeting a multitude of personal and family needs, including food, housing and financial assistance.
  • Care Teams: SBC offers Care Team Opportunties for people interested in working with persons affected by HIV/AIDS or with homebound church members.
  • Conversational English: Classes in one-on-one and group conversation are offered during the school year to assist people for whom English is their second language.
  • UAB Campus Counseling: A counseling center serving the UAB campus and Southside community.
  • Korean Baptist Church: The Korean Baptist Church meets for worship at SSBC in Memorial Chapel.
  • Lighthouse International Church: This congregation primarily consists of Kenyans. They meet for worship in Drennen Hall.
  • YMCA: Programs provide a safe enviornment for children through regular afterschool care and summer camp programs.
